Hermes Agent Commands

Hermes has two command layers.

  • CLI commands are typed in the terminal and control installation, configuration, profiles, gateway, cron jobs, tools, and skills.
  • Slash commands are typed inside an active session and control the current conversation, model, toolsets, skills, and gateway actions.

Telegram Gateway Topic Sessions

Telegram supergroup topics/forum threads are separate Hermes sessions. Session keys are built from platform + chat type + group chat ID + thread ID, e.g. agent:main:telegram:group:<group_id>:<thread_id>. Same group, different topic = different session; same topic = continuing session unless /reset, reset policy, or /resume changes it.

To inspect actual mappings on a user’s machine, check:

  • ~/.hermes/sessions/sessions.json for session_key, session_id, and origin.thread_id
  • ~/.hermes/state.db sessions table for titles/message counts

Gateway commands: /resume lists titled sessions, /resume <title> switches the current chat/topic to that session, /title <name> names the current session, and /status shows the current session.

Safety notes

  • --yolo and /yolo reduce approval friction for dangerous commands. Use them only in trusted local environments.
  • Never publish actual values from .env, auth.json, OAuth tokens, API keys, or credential pools.
  • Toolset changes are normally safest after starting a new session.
